100 mile South Downs trek for PAPYRUS

A cause that means a lot to the both of us, and we wanted to do something properly challenging to support it.
- Adam & Nick

We’re incredibly proud of our Vice Captain Adam Crook, and 1st XV star scorer, Nick Whitley-Jones, who have managed to carve out a rare gap in our busy fixture list to take on an extraordinary challenge in support of a vital cause. They’ll be tackling a 100-mile trek along the beautiful but demanding South Downs Way, completing the route from Winchester to Eastbourne in just four days – nearly a marathon a day.

They’re undertaking this effort to raise awareness and funds for PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Suicide, a charity whose work has never been more important. Tragically, suicide remains the leading cause of death for people aged 35 and under in the UK. Even if you haven’t been personally affected, it’s likely that someone close to you has felt its impact. Adam and Nick’s challenge isn’t just about the miles they’ll cover; it’s about shining a light on conversations that are too often avoided, and reminding people that help, hope, and support should always be within reach.

The trek will test them with long days, steep climbs, and unpredictable winter weather, but as a club we believe no one should ever have to face a difficult journey alone. That’s why we’re inviting our wider rugby family, friends, and community to stand with them.

If you’re able, please donate, share their story, or simply check in with someone who might need a friendly voice. Together, we can help make a meaningful difference and support the life-saving work PAPYRUS does every single day.
